A New Focus
It’s a new chapter for me. My entire adult life has been spent teaching and coaching, either on the field, in the gym, or in the classroom. I look forward with optimism at the changes ahead. One of those is to spend more time online writing about the many life lessons that sports has to offer. I will spend more time on the human side of things–and less on the technical aspects of training in the gym. Competing in sports, or training hard in pursuit of a goal brings many things to the surface. It shows us who we are, what we are made of, and often reveals just how much more we have in us than we realized.
Jackie Robinson is one of my favorite figures in American History. He was a man of faith, and strong convictions. So in celebration of the latest movie out about his life, I post this photo that I took years ago from a billboard on the side of the road. My hope is more of us pay attention to the lessons that can be learned through competition, and that we find the “Jackie” in ourselves.
